Extracting Spirits
Anyone whose Facts/background indicates they learned magic (as spirits are intrinsic to all magic) can extract a spirit. Doing so takes 1 hour per corpse HD & requires you have a viable Totem on hand to stuff the Spirit into.
You must choose at the time of extraction if you wish to perform a complete extraction or a partial extraction.
- Complete: Copies every Feature from the corpse, but produces a Spirit whose Power is equal to the corpse’s Power, minimum 1.
- Partial: Copies just one Feature from the corpse, producing a Spirit whose Power is equal to half the corpse’s Power, rounded up, minimum 1.
If a partial extraction is performed, the remaining Features are permanently lost. In either case, the corpse is of course left empty.
Copying Features
When you move to transfer Features off a corpse & onto its extracted Spirit, the following may all be copied:
- Resistances & Immunities: These come as a single package. You get all of the Immunities, Weaknesses, & Resistances applied as a single Feature.
- Weapons: Natural weapons are each considered a Feature, including oddball ones with special non-Damage effects.
- Features: Anything listed as an explicit special ability, including Class Features.
You cannot copy:
- Statblocks: HD, Speed scores, natural Armor, Facts.
- Implicit Characteristics: Anything that isn’t listed as Features (i.e. a shark’s water-breathing, a bird’s ability to fly or lay eggs, an angel’s agelessness) is off the table.
