Battle Rating
Battle Rating
Battle Rating (BR) is a score representing everything that makes a character uniquely competent in a general combat scenario, not including exceptional cases. The formula for BR is as follows:
(Power × Armor Multiplier × Damage Multiplier × Helpful Features Multiplier) ÷ Harmful Features Multiplier = BR
Always round to the nearest 1 BR increment. The calculation for each variable is as follows:
- Power: Equal to your Level + HD.
- If you have a mount, add the mount’s Power.
- Armor Multiplier: Since Armor is a multiplier of Power & we assume 1 Power = 4 HP, this is calculable based on the degree of Armor. Your Armor Multiplier is equal to 1 plus your highest Armor score divided by 4. For leather, this is 1.25×; chain, 1.5×; plate, 2×.
- If mounted, use an averaged Armor score.
- Damage Multiplier: Divide your best possible Damage output per Turn (accounting for all Strikes & other esoteric factors i.e. Reload weapons) by 4.
- Ask your GM if you have other, weirder modifiers for a given weapon.
- Mount attacks are only added if the mount is a sapient combatant.
- Helpful Features Multiplier: Sum the number of Features you have that help your combat performance (& that aren’t already implicitly included in other multipliers) & add 1.
- Add mount Features if applicable.
- Harmful Features Multiplier: Sum the number of Features that harm your combat performance (& that aren’t already implicitly included in other multipliers) & add 1.
- Add mount Features if applicable.
A Lv2 human (HD 2) soldier with full plate, a shield & sword (medium melee, 5 Physical) & no outstandingly combat-useful Features (i.e. from his Class Features) has a Battle Rating of (4 × 2 × 1.25 × 1 ÷ 1) = 10.
An Army of 120 such soldiers would have a BR of 120 × 10 = 1,200.
A Lv4 human (HD 2) with leather armor, a 2-handed longsword (large melee, 8 Physical), an extra Strike (for 2 total per Attack) & 2 other combat-applicable Features has a BR of (6 × 1.25 × 4 × 3) ÷ 1 = 90. He’s worth about 8 of the swordsmen in the previous example by himself.
If he instead had plate armor, he’d be worth (6 × 2 × 4 × 3) ÷ 1 = BR 144. Not bad!
