Movement & Space
Glass Empires by default uses a gridless approach to combat.
Character Size
A character occupies a cylindrical battlefield area whose diameter & height is equal to their Size. If you’re using miniatures, you should try to make sure their bases are scaled appropriately to the battlefield scale in use.
Measuring Distance
A ruler is recommended! Any scale can be used for a given combat space so long as everyone’s using the same measurement system. The recommended scale is 1” of map space per 5ft in-game.
Character movement rate, when reduced or increased over a part of a journey, is measured from the point of impairment to the end of it.
Mixing Speed Scores
If a character uses multiple Speed scores for movement on their Turn, the lowest Speed score is the cap on how far the character can Move in total, overriding any higher scores used.
Compelled Movement
Compelled movement, such as falling, being shoved, or knockback is not counted against a character’s Speed score for determining movement rate or total moved distance during their Turn(s).
Difficult Terrain
Terrain or space that’s unusually difficult to navigate smoothly (such as stairs or thin suspended boards/walkways) halves a character’s movement rate.
Trampling
Actors may move through the space of foes whose Weight is less than one-tenth their own. If they are Dashing, Sprinting, or Charging, they deal 5 Physical Damage in the process to anyone in the way. If their Weight is less than one-hundredth their own, the Damage is increased to 50.
