Encumbrance

rulesadventure

10lb is 1 stone (1#). Everything is weighed in stone.

Characters have a Max. Load indicating how many stone they can carry safely (assuming they have storage for those goods). Each hand can hold up to 1# independently from your Max. Load. The impact of encumbrance depends on how much of a character’s Max. Load is occupied:

  • Up to half (rounded up): No effect.
  • Up to full: Suffer the Encumbered Condition.
  • More than full: You cannot usefully move.

Characters can Save to deadlift up to twice their Max. Load for up to 1 Round (10 seconds), after which they must Save again.

Small Items: Most small items weighing less than 1# but more than 2lb weigh 1/4#. Smaller items are weightless. Items sold as bundles in the marketplace weigh their listed weight for a bundle of that quantity.

Item Slots & Cards: On your character sheet sheet, Max. Load is represented by 1-1/2” item slots on the edge of the sheet. 1 slot is 1#. Items weighing 1/4# can be stacked up to 4 per slot. Print out item cards & attach them with paperclips, or just write in the spaces with a pencil. (But item cards are quite a lot of fun, if you’re playing in-person.)

Encumbered Condition

While Encumbered, characters halve their effective Speed scores while measuring long-distance travel. Short-term movement rates such as in combat are not affected.

In addition, being Encumbered is a -1 penalty on Saves made for dexterity or agility. This does not include Strike Saves made for Attacks.
