Metals & Materials
Metal is not elemental. There are 8 metals: Lead, tin, copper, iron, mercury, silver, gold, & bismuth. Similarly, there are an enormous variety of gemstones, the vast majority of which are associated with a handful of domains. None have special significance.
The Eight Metals
| Metal | Description |
|---|---|
| Lead | Immaterial spirits cannot pass through lead. It naturally absorbs magical energy, making it ideal for shielding. |
| Tin | Tin’s primary value is diffusion. Combined with copper, it produces bronze, which is comparable to iron but weaker & prone to shattering. |
| Copper | Copper induces cycling & true transformation. |
| Iron | Immaterial spirits cannot pass through iron. Unlike lead, iron is well-suited for weaponry & therefore is associated with violence. It can also be used for binding & warding, but it absorbs magic poorly. |
| Mercury | Mercury cannot induce changes, but does allow fluidity, adaption & mutation of qualities within existing boundaries. |
| Silver | Silver serves as a mirror & can be used to induce reflection & redirection in magical instruments. |
| Gold | Functionally eternal & potent as a conductor. Magical energy stored in gold & wrapped in iron can last nearly forever. |
| Bismuth | A lethal capacitor. Bismuth stores massive amounts of energy & then violently & unpredictably discharges it. |
Magnets & the Moon
The Heart of All Iron is said to be held by the Lunarian Princess on the Moon. Iron longs to return to it. This is why iron is magnetic & why it orients, in the absence of other magnetized iron, towards the Moon.
